It's a sad fact that many parents, especially women, end up lacking identity, purpose, and confidence when the kids grow up or leave the nest. You may feel de-skilled, and may have been out of the workplace for years. You're no longer sure what your interests are, or what you are good at, and you really worry about what people think of you or how you come across.
This means you don't put yourself forward for progression and end up being in the same unfulfilling job for years. Meanwhile, you see people who have been there less time than you progress faster and earn more. It's a horrible, unfair cycle to be trapped in.
