Anxiety in adults

A Parent's Guide to What Actually Helps

When Your Teen Is Anxious

Practical, step-by-step support for teenagers and the parents/carers who care about them

You’re probably already doing everything you can

If your teenager is struggling with anxiety, you’re probably already doing everything you can.

Mornings can feel tense.

Conversations feel carefully chosen.

You’re constantly weighing things up in your head:

Do I push… or back off?

Am I supporting them or making things worse?

What’s the right thing to say here?

Many parents tell me they feel emotionally drained by the responsibility of it all, trying to support their teen while managing school, routines and their own worries, all without a clear sense of what actually helps.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not failing.

You’re responding to anxiety AND anxiety makes parenting feel much harder than it should.

Reading about anxiety can be a really helpful first step. For most families, change happens when that understanding is supported with clear structure, practical guidance and examples that make it easier to respond differently in everyday situations.

That’s why I’ve created a practical, step-by-step online programme designed to support teenagers with anxiety, alongside their parents. The programme builds on the ideas you’ve read here and focuses on helping teens develop coping skills, while parents learn how to support that learning at home.

I also know that not every teenager is ready to engage in this kind of support. For those situations, there is a separate parent- only programme, designed to help parents make changes that

support anxiety reduction even when their teen isn’t actively involved.
